Fireworks, ‘America’s Got Talent’ Contestants to Entertain Indy-Area Independence Day Revelers
June 28, 2014 — With their recent performance on NBC’s ‘America’s Got Talent,’ The Willis Clan had the hit television show’s panel of celebrity judges singing their praises and ultimately voting the Nashville-based group through to the next round. The family band, comprised of 12 siblings singing a mix of Irish folk and contemporary country music, will perform free concerts at two of the Indianapolis-area’s larger Independence Day weekend celebrations. The two celebrations are open to the public of all ages and will take place at Hoosier Park Racing & Casino in Anderson on Friday, July 4 and Indiana Grand Racing & Casino in Shelbyville on Saturday, July 5. In addition to the free concerts, both events will include a 30-minute fireworks show synchronized to music beginning at approximately 10 p.m.
Each evening, fireworks technicians will send a total of 10,000 shells and effects into the night’s sky in both locations, 1,000 of which will be fired in the last 30 seconds to create the largest fireworks finales in the Indianapolis-area. Unique to Hoosier Park and Indiana Grand this year will be the use of a new water firework effect in which multiple floating fireworks will ignite and send streams of fire up from the lakes encircled by both of the locations’ racetracks.
Both 30-minute fireworks shows will feature a soundtrack including a series of 45 hits from the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Pitbull, Heart, AC/DC, Mumford & Sons, Tom Petty, Lee Greenwood, Pharrell Williams, and Florida Georgia Line. Working with American Fireworks Company technicians, Centaur Gaming management helped choreograph and edit the soundtrack to match each song to a corresponding moment and effect in the show.
This marks the second year the two racetrack casinos have teamed up to offer Indiana residents and visitors a unique experience for Independence Day entertainment. Family-friendly entertainment options leading up to the fireworks shows will include live horse racing, free face painting, games and activities, roaming live entertainment, and special giveaways. Multiple dining options, offering all-American classics, will be available at both locations. Festivities begin at Hoosier Park on Friday, July 4 at 5 p.m. and at Indiana Grand on Saturday, July 5 at 4:30 p.m.
For the second year, the American Fireworks Company from Hudson, Ohio will produce the fireworks shows. The family-owned pyrotechnics company, in its seventh generation, has been in business since 1902 and recently participated in the record-setting fireworks show in Dubai on New Year’s Eve 2013.
Chairs and picnic tables will be available throughout both venues for convenience. Outside food and drinks are prohibited. Guests are welcome to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets for additional comfort. Family-friendly entrances are available through the racetrack main entrances of both properties.
