Team members at Indiana Grand have invested in the local community once again this year, raising a total of $41,905 from various fundraisers, auctions and payroll deductions, all to help the area organization Shelby County United Fund For You (SCUFFY). The organization, based in Shelbyville, raises money for numerous non-profit and community operations each year through its annual fundraiser, which Indiana Grand takes part in.

“We have met and exceeded our goal now for a number of years thanks to the efforts of organizations such as Indiana Grand,” said Angie Davies, executive director of S.C.U.F.F.Y. “And, we wouldn’t be as successful without all of the volunteers like Brent (Sandman). Brent is on the board and served as the co-drive chairman this year and did a fantastic job, and he will be back again next year,”

S.C.U.F.F.Y. uses the funds to provide aid and assistance to numerous organizations in Shelby County, including the J. Kenneth Self Boys & Girls Club, Girls, Inc., Meals on Wheels, The Salvation Army, and Shelby County Senior Services just to name a few. The goal for the 2016 campaign was $805,000 and nearly $840,000 was raised in 2016.

“These funds are so important to our community,” added Sandman. “And, all the money raised stays right here in Shelby County.”

Davies and Sandman were honored with the special presentation of the funds from Indiana Grand Saturday, June 11 during the racing program. Rachel McLaughlin, on-air racing personality for Indiana Grand, interviewed both Davies and Sandman just before the Belmont Stakes simulcast shown during the races. Joining them for the presentation was Grand Daddy, Indiana Grand’s official mascot.

Indiana Grand exceeded the amount donated for 2015, which was over the $38,000 mark.
