Indiana Grand Racing & Casino donates more than $36,000 to SCUFFY

Indiana Grand Racing & Casino recently completed the 2014 campaign to support the Shelby County United Fund for You, known locally as SCUFFY. As a result of the commitment by the team members at Indiana Grand, a total of $36,535 was presented to Angie Davies, executive director of SCUFFY, during a special ceremony held Friday, May 23 during the racing program.

“This is one of those days where it is fun to come to work and do good things,” said Jon Schuster, vice president and general manager of racing at Indiana Grand. “Our president and COO, Jim Brown, challenged our team members to step up and get behind our campaign for SCUFFY. This organization makes a huge commitment to our community and I am proud to work for a company with the foresight and vision to support this effort. I’m also proud of our team members for their commitment to this cause.”

Davies noted the 2014 goal for SCUFFY was the highest goal to date with a mark of $800,000. They not only reached that goal, they went $10,000 over the mark.

“I’m so happy to be here today and accept this check,” said Davies, who was joined by board members Dave Fisher and Sam Braunagel for the presentation. “This is an incredible donation and we appreciate everything Indiana Grand has done. We thank them for their investment in our community. Obviously, Indiana Grand’s incredible performance and corporate pledge to SCUFFY made all the difference.”

Money raised this year during the SCUFFY drive will benefit all 13 organizations under the SCUFFY umbrella. Those recipients include Boys Club, Boy Scouts, Cancer Association of Shelby County, Project Clothes For Kids, Girl’s Inc., Girl Scouts, Head Start, Meals on Wheels, The Salvation Army, Shelby Community Health Center, Shelby Senior Services, USO of Indiana and Turning Point. The drive is conducted once per year to support these agencies that provide a wide array of services to Shelby County.

Also available for the presentation from Indiana Grand was Deannette Pryor, director of human resources, Jean Isaacs, employee relations specialist, Rachel McLaughlin, on-air racing analyst and Grand Daddy, Indiana Grand’s new mascot.
