Indiana Grand Racing & Casino preparing for Kentucky Derby Day

$10,000 Kentucky Derby Mega Bet Drawing to be held

Programs and wagering are now available for the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby Saturday, May 3 at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino. To enhance the Kentucky Derby Day experience at Indiana Grand, several promotions are scheduled, bringing a full day of activities to racing guests Saturday, May 3 when doors open at 9 a.m.

Guests may register to win one $10,000 Kentucky Derby Mega Bet. Registration will be held from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. The drawing for the $10,000 Mega Bet will be held at 5 p.m. on the second floor and the winner will have 15 minutes to claim their prize. At 5:45 p.m., the winner will place a $10,000 win wager on their selection in the Kentucky Derby and watch as the race goes to post at 6:24 p.m.

Other activities throughout the day include Quarter Horse schooling races at 11:15 a.m., a starting gate demonstration at 2 p.m., a pie eating contest at 2:30 p.m., barn tours and jockey quarters tours from 3-5 p.m. and a Kentucky Derby Hat Contest at 4 p.m. The winner of the Kentucky Derby Hat Contest will receive $200 in cash.

Live entertainment will be provided by “The Band Torn” from 4 – 8 p.m. trackside and guests can enjoy all the coverage of the Kentucky Derby on the new LED Video Display Board, which gives a great view of the action from any seat in the grandstand. Seating on the first level is free of charge and parking is always free. Seating is on a first come, first serve basis and many tables, chairs and benches are available during the day. The first race at Churchill Downs will go to post at 10:30 a.m.

Racing fans may also recognize the voice of Indiana Grand’s track announcer Bill Downes during the broadcast of the Kentucky Derby. Downes has been called to serve as Churchill Downs’ backup announcer for Derby Day. He is expected to call one or two races prior to the Derby as well as provide announcements during the day.

Kentucky Derby Day will set the tone for live Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing to return Tuesday, May 6. The schedule runs through Saturday, Nov. 1 offering racing Tuesday and Wednesday at 2:05 p.m. with Friday and Saturday action beginning at 5:05 p.m. Thursday racing will be added at 2:05 p.m. July 17.
