Starting from post two, Captain BD rallied out of the gate to get the first call, moving over to the path closest to the inside rail. The three-year-old black Captain Courage gelding led the field the entire way during the 400-yard dash, winning by three-quarters of a length over Beyondthegamewagon and Berkley Packer, who closed in quickly for second. Dynamite 123 and Santiago Mendez rounded out the trifecta. The time of the race was :19.777 seconds.

Captain BD earned his second straight win at Indiana Grand. He came into the race off a victory in the $74,000 Indiana Grand QHRAI Derby in early July. Captain BD is now four for six in 2016 for trainer Sacramento Chavez and owner David Gonzalez. Captain BD paid $3.60, $2.60 and $2.10 as the race favorite.

The second fastest qualifier for the QHRAI Derby was recorded in the final race of the night as Persistent PYC and Larry Payne rallied home for the win in a time of :19.790 seconds. The PYC Paint Your Wagon gelding used a closing kick to pass rivals for the win by a neck over race favorite WH Kenny G and jockey Cesar Esqueda. TF Jess a Leader and Alejandro Luna finished a head back in third to best the rest of the tightly-bunched pack at the finish line.
