Nancy Ury-Holthus joins broadcast team

Nancy Ury-Holthus has joined the broadcasting team at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino. Holthus assumed her new role beginning Wednesday, June 11 as the trackside analyst, providing pre-race handicapping from Indiana Grand’s paddock area before select races.

A native of Hot Springs, Ark., Holthus brings in more than a decade of experience as an on-air racing analyst to Indiana. She previously served as a host and handicapper for TVG, an international channel dedicated to horse racing based in Los Angeles. Holthus has also served in several key capacities at racetracks, including stall superintendent for 10 years at Hollywood Park as well as racing office positions at Arlington Park.

“We are delighted to welcome Nancy to our team at Indiana Grand,” said Jon Schuster, vice president, general manager of racing. “She will add an additional view about our racing product from the paddock that we have previously been unable to offer. By expanding our broadcast team, we can better serve our patrons, both on track and through simulcasting, with as much information as possible to assist them in handicapping our races.”

Holthus joins Rachel McLaughlin and Bill Downes as track analysts. McLaughlin also serves as the track’s on-air promotional correspondent while Downes is the track announcer at Indiana Grand. McLaughlin and Downes currently co-host the show, “Wire 2 Wire,” shown prior to the races.

“I’m ecstatic to be joining the team at Indiana Grand,” said Holthus. “I’m looking forward to working with Rachel and Bill. This is a huge opportunity for me and I’m very grateful for it.”

Holthus and her husband, Paul, who is a Thoroughbred trainer currently racing at Indiana Grand, are creating a racing circuit between Oaklawn Park and Indiana Grand. Holthus also holds a similar position at Oaklawn Park as the track’s media coordinator.

Live Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing continues through Saturday, Nov. 1 offering racing Tuesday and Wednesday at 2:05 p.m. with Friday and Saturday action beginning at 5:05 p.m. Thursday racing will be added at 2:05 p.m. July 17. For more information, visit the Website at
