Zombie Derby offers big cash prizes for costume contest
Indiana Grand Racing & Casino is getting in on the popular “Zombie” craze with the first “Zombie Derby” set for Saturday, Oct. 15. The evening will include food, activities, entertainment, and a costume contest in the Zombie theme all while collecting non-perishable items for Pantry Pals of Shelby County.
The evening’s festivities kick off at 6:05 p.m. in conjunction with live Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing. Guests can enjoy specially-themed food and beverage items. In addition, a specialty face painter will provide “Zombie” looks to guests in attendance.
Fans will also be entertained with a special appearance by Gunner from Q-95 FM. Gunner will assist in judging the contest for the “Best Dressed Zombie” with first place dragging home $1,000, second place $500 and third place awarded $250. Registration for the costume contest begins at 7 p.m. trackside.
“The ‘Zombie’ trend is so hot right now, we wanted to do something special for our guests so they could enjoy a unique night at the races,” said Jahnae Erpenbach, vice president and general manager of gaming at Indiana Grand. “We have a lot of different activities to coincide with racing that night with some awesome prizes for those who participate in the Best Dressed Zombie Costume contest. Plus, Gunner of Q-95 always raises the level of energy anywhere he goes and will get the party started for the event. Our hope is this event will be wildly popular and become an annual event for Indiana Grand.”
DJ of the Dead will play music in between races while a strolling fire zombie will provide performances during the night. Also, Zombie Dancers will perform in between races.
All guests who bring in a non-perishable canned food item will receive a free Zombie Can Koozie. All donations collected will be delivered to Pantry Pals of Shelby County following the event.
Immediately following the racing program, all guests will have the opportunity to participate in the “Zombie Swarm” on the actual racetrack. Prizes will be offered to those who participate in the swarm on the track after racing.
